Certification levels

The ISTQB® Certified Tester scheme is structured in four progressive levels. Each level builds on the previous one and gives you a recognised step on your testing career path.

  1. CTFL

    Foundation Level

    Entry-level certification covering core testing concepts, required as a prerequisite for all higher-level certifications.

    Prerequisites: None

    Exam: 60 minutes · 40 questions

  2. CTAL

    Advanced Level

    Deep-dive tracks for experienced testers across Core and Agile streams. Requires Foundation Level.

Location

After purchasing your remote (FLEX) exam, you can take the test from any location, including your home. Exams are live-proctored (specific requirements for remote exams apply).

Second try

When you opt for a second try (2TRY), you'll invest an additional 25% with your initial purchase. You can retake an exam if you do not succeed on your first try. Don't forget to request iSQI for your repeat exam within 90 days of your initial attempt.

How to Purchase an iSQI Exam Voucher for ISTQB Certification

    1. Exam Language: Choose between English or other languages. 2. Extended Time (Time Bonus): Add 25% extra time if the exam is not in your native language and you are taking the exam in a non-native country (e.g., English exam in Lithuania). 3. Retake Option: Allows a free second attempt if you fail the first exam. Highly recommended for peace of mind.

REMOTE EXAM

Schedule your remote proctored exam on ExamUnit

Once you have purchased your iSQI voucher, follow these steps to schedule your remote proctored exam on ExamUnit.

  1. STEP 01

    Prepare Your Voucher Code

    You will need it from the email iSQI sent you. Keep it ready before opening the ExamUnit booking page.

  2. STEP 02

    Register Your Exam Slot

    Pick a date and time that suit you. Time bonus: if you're eligible for extra time (e.g., taking the exam in a non-native language), tick the time-bonus box during booking.

  3. STEP 03

    Watch for Confirmation Emails

    After booking, you will receive two emails: a booking confirmation and a system-check reminder. Check your spam/junk folder if you don't see these.

  4. STEP 04

    Complete Your System Check

    At least 48 hours before your scheduled exam run the system check using the link provided. This ensures your device is compatible with ExamUnit's platform. Failing to complete this in time may lead to cancellation without a refund.

  5. STEP 05

    Prepare for Exam Day

    Have your valid photo ID ready, ensure your room is quiet and well lit, close all other applications, and follow the proctor's instructions throughout the exam.
